Jubilation

I love this phrase from Rumi because he captures exactly how I feel about Beauty. When I open my heart to a moment of beauty, I feel a wave of jubilation – and also a sense of awe at the mysteries and marvels of our universe.

I’ve spent the past five weeks nudging these roses into being. There were days when I couldn’t find my way in the painting, when my eye and my hand couldn’t fathom the subtle color shifts (or is it the spirit?) of a flower. But I’ve learned that I can trust my painting practice, and know that by calmly showing up every day at the easel, I will eventually find my way.

P.S..  I have a game-changing discovery (at least to me) to share with my painter friends. We all know how difficult it is to mix a true, bright pink. The existing reds on our palettes just aren’t adequate, and we end up adding blue, violets and anything we can to find that true pink. Well, Holbein makes a beautiful color called Quinachridone Opera. Mixed with a little white, it makes a gorgeous pink, and it has transformed my palette. Enjoy!
